Q: What is a stint?

A: A stint is a definition of driving a tank full of gasoline on the track

At the race in 2004 the Audi R8 drove 12-13 laps on a tank of gasoline which is something like a distance of 180 kilometres. The Audi R8 had in 2004 a tank capacity of 80 litres, and this gives an average fuel economy of 2.25 km/l

The definition of a double or triple stint describes if a driver continuously is in the car and drives two or three tanks of gasoline respectively. This is a difficult task to drive such a distance without breaks, and only few drivers are capable of doing so. The advantage is to save time changing driver: both for time lost in the pits but also time lost when the new driver drives his installation lap.
